Overview

Outboard-60 L starts where the great analog polysynths left off — anti-aliased oscillators, a self-oscillating four-pole filter, one snappy envelope and a triangle LFO, finished with the stereo chorus that made those machines sing. Then it grows a second nature: a Liquid resonance engine turns each note into a breathing choir of strings and soundboard, a Luminous grain layer floats tones above the sound, piano pedals bloom sympathetic resonance, and a Smart arpeggiator turns a held chord into a musical line. Six subtly-detuned analog voices, with a reverb and a delay to place them in a room — all in an immersive interface.

The Liquid resonance engine

Turn up LIQUID and every note stops being a single voice. A struck string blooms into a detuned three-string choir that beats and breathes, sympathetic neighbours ring along, and a modeled soundboard gives the whole thing a body — the physics of a real acoustic instrument, tuned by ear. Nine controls shape it, from the string chorus and bridge admittance to inharmonicity, hammer hardness and a treble-to-bass stretch tuning. Set LIQUID to zero and you have the classic analog synth back, bit for bit.

Anti-aliased oscillators

The voice begins with a clean, alias-free oscillator bank: a full-range sawtooth, a pulse with breathing pulse-width modulation, and a sub an octave below for weight — plus noise for the filter to chew on. Everything is band-limited and oversampled, so even the highest notes stay pure instead of turning to grit. It is the honest, punchy analog tone the rest of the engine is built on.

A four-pole filter that sings

A zero-delay-feedback four-pole ladder — the resonant low-pass at the heart of every classic mono and poly synth. Twenty-four dB per octave, a resonance that climbs into a clean self-oscillating sine, key-tracking that follows the keyboard, and a soft-clipping drive that fattens as you push it. It sweeps and screams without ever blowing up.

The stereo bucket-brigade chorus

The signature widener: two phase-inverted, modulated delay lines that smear the sound into a lush stereo image — modes I, II and I+II, from a gentle shimmer to a deep swirl. It is the effect that gave those old machines their unmistakable width, modeled right down to the dark, grainy tone of the original.

Luminous — a grain layer that shimmers

Above the synth voice, Luminous scatters a cloud of soft, note-triggered grains — floating tones that drift, sparkle and fade in time with what you play. It stays inside the song's harmony, follows the plugin's own tuning, and blends from a faint halo to a full second instrument. A whole shimmering texture from one held chord.

Smart Arp — a chord becomes a line

More than an up-and-down arpeggiator: hold a chord and Smart Arp writes a musical phrase — Melody, Phrase, Counterline or Bass Follow — with motif memory, humanize and voice-leading that keep it moving like a player, not a pattern. Drag the pattern straight out of the monitor onto a DAW track as MIDI. Or run the faithful classic arpeggiator when that is all you need.

One envelope, one LFO
A single snappy ADSR shapes both the filter and the amplitude, exactly as the classics did — with true, analog-style exponential segments. A triangle LFO with a fade-in delay adds vibrato, filter movement and pulse-width sweep.

Six-voice polyphony where each voice carries its own subtle tuning and character drift — a living, non-static sound you dial in with the Variance and Drift controls, from dead-clean to gently unstable.
