Outboard PalmML
> Outboard PalmML is a hybrid guitar instrument — 400 real palm-muted multiscale seven-string recordings excite a note-locked Liquid physical-modeling layer, with pickup morphing, true stereo takes, sample-rate vibrato and a fixed guitar-focused effects chain from Graphic EQ to Dark Plate.
Outboard PalmML is a hybrid guitar instrument — 400 real palm-muted multiscale seven-string recordings excite a note-locked Liquid physical-modeling layer, with pickup morphing, true stereo takes, sample-rate vibrato and a fixed guitar-focused effects chain from Graphic EQ to Dark Plate.
What it's for
Outboard PalmML starts with a real attack. Every note inside the recorded range (A1–E3, MIDI 33–52 with C4 = MIDI 60) calls up its own palm-mute recording — pick attack, string noise and pickup color intact. The Liquid engine then uses that recording as an excitation for a note-locked string resonance with sympathetic overtones and a fixed cab voicing: from a short, controlled chug at low settings to a long, singing liquid guitar. At LIQUID zero you have the dry recording back. Notes outside the range stay silent by design; neighboring samples are never repitched.
What's inside
- The sample corpus — 20 chromatic notes, two pickup positions, independent left/right takes and five round robins each: 400 lossless recordings embedded in the plugin, no separate content download. Repeated notes rotate through the takes.
- The Liquid engine — a note-locked dispersive string resonance driven by the real attack, with sympathetic overtones and a fixed cab voicing. Tight ↔ Ring runs from damped staccato to singing StringRing sustain; Whiten tames problematic resonance in the excitation.
- Pickup morphing — bridge and neck were recorded for every note; one control morphs continuously between them, even while you play.
- True stereo — independent left/right takes make the width; a stereo control scales it from mono-solid to wide, mono-compatible throughout.
- Sound section — a resonant four-pole filter, low cut, ADSR envelope, velocity dynamics, Motion, pitch vibrato created by modulating sample playback rate, and a BBD chorus.
- Rig — an eleven-band Graphic EQ with 21 selectable curves on the raw instrument signal, a Presence stage, AntiFizz, and a softclip/safety stage that stays transparent below −1 dBFS.
- FX — a circuit-modeled diode overdrive and a stereo lamp/LDR vibe, followed by the dense, dark plate reverb.
- Six voices — six-voice playback with polyphonic wet-density control that keeps low notes and fast patterns from building up.
- Tuning — Scala/KBM support, MTS-ESP status and a one-click return to 12-TET, plus master tune and A4 reference (415–466 Hz).
- Presets — 112 hand-tuned factory presets in 12 categories, with favorites, an internal browser, your own presets as files, and a personal default that loads in every new instance.
Getting started
- Load Outboard PalmML on an instrument track and play in the A1–E3 range — palm-mute chugs with real attack, straight away.
- Bring up LIQUID in the footer to hear the note bloom into a singing, resonant tail.
- Morph Pickup between bridge and neck on the Sound page, and set the width to taste.
- Open the preset browser from the header (the name with the arrows) to browse the 112 factory presets by category and star favorites.
